Year in review
The year in short
Under President Rtn. Priyanka Karnik and Secretary Rtn. Atul Galande, the club undertook projects totalling about ₹1 crore — its largest programme of work to that point. The year combined a Rotary Foundation Global Grant for water with a corporate CSR partnership in education, and was recognised by Rotary International and by District 3131 across water and sanitation, Foundation giving, membership, youth and public image.
Water at Vinzer — the Global Grant project
A ₹44 lakh water conservation and purification project at Village Vinzer repaired the existing check dams, built new check dams and a baby canal, and installed a Water ATM with purification. Surrounding villages draw on the same work, and it benefits more than 2,500 people every year.
Education and CSR with Mediaocean
A ₹23 lakh CSR grant from Mediaocean put high-resolution digital learning infrastructure and software into the hands of 600 children across rural secondary centres and Zilla Parishad primary schools at Vyahali, Tanpurwadi, Kadbanwadi, Galandwadi, Rajwadi, Gagargaon and Rajegaon, with solar rooftop integration at the same schools. A separate ₹7 lakh Mediaocean project supported the Babasaheb Ambedkar School.
Women's empowerment and rural health
School infrastructure was used after hours for vocational training and community skill-building reaching around 500 women. Bio-digester waste treatment systems improved sanitation and environmental hygiene for more than 2,000 villagers, and nurseries with pump and drip irrigation began an afforestation programme touching up to 10,000 residents across the wildlife corridors at Shirsatwadi.
Health and community service
The club ran bone density camps for women in the vasti with follow-up and tablet distribution, knee brace camps every two months, and two blood donation camps with Janakalyan Blood Bank — 200 bottles at Cipla, Panvel and 110 at Swarnagiri Society, Anand Nagar. It donated oximeters and thermometers, a weighing machine to the paediatric ward at Sassoon Hospital, baby sippers for Sassoon's toddlers, grains to Sevadham Old Age Home, and a water tank to Shivaji High School.
Education, literacy and youth
Career guidance lectures were held for the children of police personnel, a balwadi was set up for the children of sex workers through Renutai Gavaskar's Ekalavya Bal Shikshan & Arogya Nyasa, and an adult literacy programme and digital literacy course for women ran alongside a spoken English course delivered by the Aarya Stree Shakti Foundation. Sanitary napkin dispensers were installed in an ashram shala, and a printer and library racks went to the Sahyasakha Foundation, which works with Adivasi communities near Junnar.
Environment
Plastic was collected across housing societies with the Keshavsita Foundation and recycled by the Rudra Foundation; a mega e-waste collection drive with 38+ clubs across 90 venues gathered more than 20 tons. The club ran its Nirmalya waste collection and treatment project, donated 500 masks to Swaccha's workers, installed aerators at IISER as a synergy project with RC Shivajinagar, and distributed seed-embedded Indian flags on 15 August that schools, organisations and club families planted the following day.
Culture and recognition of others
The club conducted a state-level अभिवाचन (Abhivachan) competition with the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and Continental Prakashan, with prizes presented by Dr. Veena Dev. Its one-act play “Kulkarni vi. Deshpande” won first place in the RC Shivajinagar Ekankika competition against fifteen teams. A synergy Women's Day programme felicitated women doing impactful work in their fields, the Vocational Excellence Award went to Dr. Amod Sane of Green Pharmacy for his environmental work, and Service Project awards recognised individuals and organisations serving the city.
Recognition
Rotary International awarded the club its 2021–22 Club Citation and a Diamond Citation for the APF challenge. District 3131 named it one of four 7 Star Clubs, gave it Gold in the Global Grant avenue for an impact-making service project, Silver in Economic & Community Development for water and sanitation, Silver for Best President, first place in Zone 4 for total giving to The Rotary Foundation, and awards for best youth activity, best in the membership avenue, and best synergy event with RCPU as lead club.
